Pitch Pine | Cork City

This project comprised of the refurbishment and conversion of an existing 19th century Cork Docklands warehouse from a light industrial use to office use accommodating general open plan office/studio space, reception, meeting room, print room and kitchenette/toilets.

 

The initial design challenge for the meeting room was to introduce some natural daylight into an inner room. Horizontal timber laths were used internally as a reminder of the activities on the close by Docklands and to articulate a contrast between the existing stone walls and simple plasterboard finishes.

 

Daylight filters through an translucent glass which is fixed flush inside the room with aluminium channels top and bottom. A clerestory window was introduced internally to give some natural light to the presentation wall below.
